Inverted dressing with the IBEX Sheep and Lamb Slaughtering System

IBEX developed (could be challenged) inverted dressing, the technique which has now become regarded as an industry standard, throughout the world. The process of inverted dressing, incorporating the unique components developed by IBEX specifically for this process, provides some outstanding advantages when compared to alternative dressing systems.

Why Choose an IBEX Inverted Dressing System?

IBEX customize each and every dressing system design, allowing the conveyor to follow the most ergonomically practical process layout with minimize contamination as the animal follows through its process.

The processing concept was originally developed by IBEX and has now become an industry standard throughout the world. It is based on the inverted dressing technique providing some outstanding advantages when compared to alternative dressing systems.

The IBEX sheep dressing system has been tried and tested in over 40 slaughter floors worldwide. IBEX work in conjunction with the abattoir to ensure the system integrates with the rest of the abattoir process system, encompassing the following slaughter floor functions.

The flexibility of design in the IBEX Dressing System chain allows the processor to incorporate aspects of the product flow such as Halal orientation, correct positioning for head cutting, changeable work heights to minimise wool and pelt roll, correct position over Shoulder Pullers and Final Pullers and correct heights for re-inverting the animal prior to evisceration.

What is included in the IBEX Inverted Dressing System?

The IBEX Inverted Dressing System is custom designed to suit your specific requirements to ensure that your requirements are met at all points, the typical Inverted Dressing System included the following elements:

  • Restrain conveyor
  • Sticking/shackling table
  • H3s head scalper
  • Conveyor chain
  • Viscera inspection tables for small stock

Restrain Conveyor

  • Two Rows of slatted Conveyor chain set at an inclusive angle of 30 degrees running parallel to form a Vee Section for the animal to be transported along the length of the restrainer
  • Twin SEW geared motors provide smooth starting and stopping
  • Adjustable width, which is controlled with two small hydraulic rams and an enclosed hydraulic system. This feature allows the operator to set the restrainer easily for stock varying from small lambs through to large rams. It allows the operator to set a consistent stunning height
  • All galvanised steel construction
  • All slats supported on UHMWPE wear pads
  • Stainless Steel Conveyor guards are standard to protect the operator from moving items
  • Integral base frame to mount to client steelwork or plinth
  • Infeed walkway from end of restrainer 1m into the pinch area
  • (Optional) Frequency Controller to control start and stop ramping

Sticking/Shackling Table

IBEX offers purpose built stainless steel tables on which to safely stick any small stock animals that have been stunned in a restraining conveyor. This table is adjustable vertically and horizontally to ease the animal into the correct position prior to being stuck.

The table comes complete with a UHMWPE bollard to position the animal around prior to being stuck.

The base of the table is manufactured from galvanised mild steel with the top being manufactured from Stainless steel.

The table has an optional method of vertical adjustment utilising airbag equipment. A blood collection tray is available as an option.

H3s Head Scalper

Described as the most effective and efficient head scalper available. This hydraulically powered unit has a Stainless Steel head which is sealed to exclude moisture and is comprised of a jaw set, support bearings and the hydraulic motor.

A control station can be mounted directly to the overhead conveyor support, in a position to suit the operator. The operator is able to select the number of rotations the scalping unit will perform, enabling the IBEX H3S Head Scalper to scalp both large and small animals at the push of a button.

An overhead support system ensures easy accessibility to the head unit and jaw set. A pivot arrangement also allows the head unit to move in sympathy with the scalping operation, avoiding strain on the carcass and pelt and conveying chain.

Key Features:

  • Suited to inverted dressing
  • Consistent output
  • Push Button variable rotation
  • High production rates
  • Better hygiene standards
  • Reduced manning requirements
  • Reliable
  • EU/USDA/DPI approved
  • Simple controls

Conveyor Chain

IBEX produces a number of styles of conveyor chains for meat industry applications. These include:

  • Conventional over/under Foreleg and Rear leg spreader conveyors
  • Bi-planer or Bi-directional Foreleg and Rear leg spreader conveyors
  • Horizontal main chain conveyors complete with meat rail
  • Stackable Detain/Retain conveyors complete with meat rail
  • Chiller and freezer header conveyors
  • Walking Beam Chiller / Freezer rail Conveyors

All of our conveyors have been used extensively within meat plant configurations around the world and have proven to be reliable and cost effective.

Viscera Inspection Tables For Small Stock

Manufactured from galvanised steel (other options available) with twin row conveyor chains supporting sets of stainless steel edible and inedible offal pans, the IBEX Viscera Inspection table is ideal for small stock applications.

All viscera inspection tables are fitted with wash cabinets and front and rear safety covers.

IBEX have designed multiple variants, which include continuous inline types, pneumatically powered reciprocating units for low throughput plants and automatic pan tipping on some models to reduce manning post inspection.
